MIRTA completed the construction of a children’s indoor bouldering wall for the sports hall of a private school in Kyiv. This type of climbing facility is an excellent solution not only for schools, but also for sports clubs, family entertainment centres and children’s activity centres looking to expand their range of activities and attract more visitors.
Bouldering is a form of climbing performed at low height without the use of ropes, where safety is ensured by specially designed impact-absorbing landing mats.
Construction of a children’s indoor bouldering wall
During the design process, particular attention was given to the strength of the steel supporting structure, the durability of the materials and user safety. The climbing surface is manufactured from moisture-resistant plywood and finished with odourless, water-based paints and varnishes that provide excellent wear resistance, making it suitable for intensive daily indoor use. For additional safety, the wall is supplied with high-density foam landing mats in durable PVC covers, while the entire structure is engineered to withstand intensive use and provide long-term reliability.
Bouldering wall structure
The children’s bouldering wall was custom-designed to match the dimensions of the sports hall and features a complex geometry with both vertical and overhanging climbing surfaces. The climbing routes can be easily reconfigured by repositioning the climbing holds, allowing the level of difficulty to be updated without modifying the structure itself. The total climbing surface area is 22.4 m², while the overall dimensions of the wall are 6.4 × 3.5 m (width × height). The supporting frame is manufactured from steel, the climbing surface is made of plywood, and the wall is equipped with 90 sand-polymer composite climbing holds. The structure is designed to withstand loads of up to 600 kg and is supplied with impact-absorbing foam landing mats in durable PVC covers measuring 6.8 × 2.0 × 0.2 m.
